What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is an ancient healing modality with origins in Japanese culture. It is a noninvasive form of energy healing that uses universal life energy to gently, but effectively, promote internal balance and well-being. The word “Reiki” comes from the Japanese words rei, which means universal life, and ki, which means energy. Reiki is becoming more widely used as complementary treatment in clinics and hospital settings. Reiki practitioners come from a variety of clinical and nonclinical fields and include physicians, nurses, psychotherapists, physical therapists, and massage therapists.

How does Reiki work?

We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens, and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

what are the benefits of reiki?

Reiki is not a cure for any specific condition. Rather, it’s seen as a complementary treatment that promotes optimal balance of the body’s energy to encourage natural healing. Reiki is used to help relieve or manage a wide variety of conditions, including chronic illness, pain, stress, depression, anxiety, fatigue, blood pressure changes, and more.

Reiki has been shown to have many possible mental health benefits. Research from 2017 https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/2156587217728644 found that many psychological benefits stemming from Reiki’s effects on the parasympathetic nervous system include anxiety reduction, depression improvement, increased self-esteem, improved mood, an increase in positive emotions, and improved emotional regulation. Although more large-scale research is needed, subsequent studies in 2019 and 2021 point to the effectiveness of Reiki as a complementary holistic tool for both physical and psychological well-being.

what can i expect during a reiki session?

During a session, you’ll lie on a massage table fully clothed. Soft relaxing music is played in the background as your Reiki practitioner gently places their hands, palms down, just above your body in specific energy locations to align and restore energy pathways in the body. Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time. Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Most clients report feeling relaxed and at peace after a Reiki treatment. Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, or experience seeing colors, while others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.

30 or 50 Minute sessions are available.
Single sessions are offered as well as series of three or six sessions, depending on your goals. Reiki benefits are cumulative in nature, so Draper Therapy offers multiple session packages to allow for maximum healing potential and better value.
